I’m back with another book review, and this time I’m reviewing the poetry and prose collection “September Love” by Lang Leav! It’s been a very long time since I last read and reviewed a collection of hers, and I thoroughly remember enjoying reading her previous works. I’m glad to pick up another book of hers to read and review this time around. here’s a quick summary so we know what it’s about:
“Beautifully composed and written by international bestselling author Lang Leav, this new collection of poetry and prose will positively influence your life.
September Love captures the magic of each passing season, a pearl of wisdom waiting to be discovered with every page turned. A book that will inspire you to reach for the stars. “
Overall Thoughts:
The blurb, admittedly, doesn’t do the best job of describing this collection. However, it speaks of two main topics; love and writing. Each of the poems focuses on specific ideas about one of the two. For instance, one poem focuses on self-love, and another would focus on the actual writing process. There were no specific ways that these poems and prose writings were categorized. However, I felt like there was a natural flow from one piece to the next. Not many poetry collections I’ve read easily achieve that, so hats off to Leav for doing so.
One of my favourite poems in this collection was Mistress, which was about the speaker describing “work” as a mistress. I thought it held some great imagery, and it made me think about one can be so obsessed with work that they will think of it outside of work.
All of the poems were interesting to read. Each of them had their own ideas about the main two topics I mentioned earlier, and executed them well. Some of them really made me stop and think as a reader about the concepts presented. I do think there is more prose in this collection than poetry, but the pieces in both forms were well-written overall.
Overall, I’m rating this book 5 out of 5 stars!
This is definitely one of Leav’s strongest collections so far. Looking back at her previous collections, and comparing them to this one, it’s clear that her writing has evolved. I highly recommend this collection to those that are a fan of Leav’s work already.
