Hello, fellow readers and writers!
As all of you know, I write fanfiction. However, I also read quite a bit of fanfiction as well, and this developed into me giving fanfiction recommendations every year. I’ve given recommendations in past years (2021, 2020, etc.), but here are the recommendations I have for this year! Each fanfic is linked in the title, so feel free to go check them out and read them!
1. The Fishing Lesson by Fortune_Maiden
This is a fanfic for the game Trails In The Sky, featuring the characters Estelle and Olivier. I really enjoyed reading this fanfic because it explored the relationship the two have—especially since Estelle doesn’t like Olivier very much when they first met. I thought it kept them in character while also providing a barrel of laughs. I would recommend playing at least the first few chapters of the game or watching a playthrough before reading it, since there are minor spoilers given, but it’s still a fun read regardless.
2. Solving Problems (like brothers) by Chaos_Breeds
This is a Sonic The Hedgehog fanfic, and it doesn’t take place during any specific game and/or film. This one did a great job of showing off Sonic, Knuckles and Tails’ teamwork with each other in combat. The combat itself is really well-written, and I loved the interactions built between all three characters in this one. If you’re looking for some fun combat scenes, this is definitely the fic for you!
3. The Sky Is Angry by Speedy1236
This is yet another Sonic The Hedgehog fanfic. Unlike “Solving Problems,” this one takes place during the events of the game Sonic Heroes. It focuses on the characters Tails, Knuckles, and Sonic, though mainly the former two, as they prepare for the final battle taking place in the game.
I thought the fic’s author did a great job at portraying Knuckles and Tails’ relationship and kept everyone in-character. I also enjoyed the visual imagery taking place in this story, too. It helped me stay in the moment of reading the story and sympathize with the characters involved.
4. heartsong by florienna
For those familiar with at least the first season of Welcome To Demon School, Iruma-Kun, you will definitely enjoy reading this fanfic! It’s a fairytale/fantasy AU fanfic. The writer does an amazing job adapting Iruma and the other characters to the context of this fantasy world and its story. I really enjoyed the way the whole main story went as well, especially the middle to ending of the fic.
5. normal people by golden_blue
This is a Pokémon Scarlet/Violet fanfic about one of the gym leaders from the game, Larry. For those that don’t know, he’s the Normal-type Pokémon Gym Leader. This fanfic explores Larry’s origins and pieces together an interpretation of how he became the Gym Leader and, later on, one of the Paldea Region’s Elite Four as well. I thought the fic did an amazing job of showcasing how extraordinary he is while also showing how oblivious Larry himself is to all of it.
