May 2024 Writing Update

Happy May, everyone!

I can’t believe we’re past the first third of the year! Time flew fast, but I think it’s been great for me so far writing-wise.

There is a lot I accomplished last month, so I’ll dive straight into what I promised: Announcing “Bloody Fantasia”‘s release date and revealing the cover.

First, the official cover:

“Bloody Fantasia” will be released on June 24th, 2024!

Yes, I finally have a confirmed release date for “Bloody Fantasia!”

“Bloody Fantasia” will be available to everyone to purchase and read on June 24th, 2024.

Also, preorders for “Bloody Fantasia” will be available starting on June 10th, 2024!

I’m grateful that I could arrange “Bloody Fantasia” to be released in June. The preceding books in the series, “Winner Takes All” and “Bloody Fantasia,” were released in June 2022 and June 2023 respectively. I’m glad I could get the third and final book in the Harlow Mystery series to be released in the same month as them!

“Bloody Fantasia” Book Blurb:

“Aubri thought that with everything that happened lately, things couldn’t get worse—but they do.

While helping Aria move into the prestigious music school she just got accepted into, tragedy strikes during the school’s welcoming ceremonies and whispers of a copycat killer from the school’s past are suddenly on the loose. Aubri, Aria, and their friends will have to discover the school’s past while searching for the current killer…and hope that they don’t end up being part of the school’s bloodstained history.”

Just like the past two books in the Harlow Mystery series, I designed this cover myself as well!

Also, newsletter subscribers now have access to wallpaper versions of this cover in the Freebie Library!

I’m glad to finally share the cover reveal with all of you. I hope you look forward to reading the book when it comes out!

You can also find information about “Bloody Fantasia” on the Harlow Mystery series page too!

Book Reviews:

Last month, I shared the following book reviews:

More book reviews will be posted this month!

Goal Review For Last Month:

1. Review “Bloody Fantasia” prep so far and make sure the cover is ready for the reveal in May.

Did I accomplish this? YES!

As you can see in the above section, this obviously happened.

2. Finish drafting 25% of “Immortalz.”

Did I accomplish this? YES!

I completed this goal within the first week of April, and I decided to keep drafting from there.

I completed writing all of Draft 1 of “Immortalz” on April 12th, 2024!

I’m super thrilled to get the first draft of “Immortalz” done. For now, I’ll be putting it to the side as I’m preparing for “Bloody Fantasia”‘s eventual release in June. However, I hope to pick it up later this year and continue where I left off to edit and write the second draft!

3. Design the cover for “Refilling The Well”

Did I accomplish this? YES!

The cover is complete, and I look forward to revealing it when the right time comes (as in, WAY closer to whenever publication is). I still don’t have a confirmed release date at this time, as I want to focus on making sure everything for “Bloody Fantasia”‘s release goes smoothly first. This will probably be the last time I discuss “Refilling The Well” until I have some major updates (a confirmed release date for example).

What Else Have I Been Writing or Doing?

As I mentioned in my April 2024 Writing Update, I also gave myself additional goals if I reached the main ones I had. This included:

  • Read through and edit “Stay Magical!”
  • Draft new short stories and/or poems
  • Submit poems and short stories to at least 3-5 lit mags or contests to be considered for publication

I submitted some short works to a few lit mags and drafted some new poems!

I’m glad I got back into this at least a little bit, because I honestly missed drafting new short poems. I didn’t submit poems/short stories to 3-5 lit mags (only 1-2) this past month. However, the drafting felt more important for me to do vs. submitting many poems to many lit mags at the time.

I also read through and edit “Stay Magical!” Draft 2 is complete as of April 10th, 2024.

I also rediscovered a poetry chapbook I drafted two years ago called “24 Hours,” and edited it before sending it off to beta readers to see what they thought of it so far. The beta readers then finished giving me their feedback. Thanks, beta readers!

I thought, at the time – “Oh, perfect! This can be a great side project inbetween preparing for “Bloody Fantasia”‘s release in June! I can work on it during May!”

I then edited “24 Hours” based on the beta reader feedback and…finished writing it, two days before May could even start!

At this point, I sometimes wonder why I bother making goals – especially I end up accomplishing them earlier than expected. I’ll figure out something else to work on during May outside of prepping for “Bloody Fantasia”‘s release, I’m sure of it!

My overall goals for this month are the following:

  • Make sure everything is ready in time for when “Bloody Fantasia” releases on June 24th, 2024, and for its preorders starting on June 10th 2024.
  • More goals to be added as the month goes! (Will probably discuss them in my newsletter during the month if they come up.)

Thank you for following my writing journey!

I hope all of you enjoy reading more of my progress and upcoming work! Do you have any goals for this month? Let me know in the comments below!
